The EC Exclusion mystery revealed (UPDATED)
Welcome back to The Shaft, and our promised addendum to yesterday’s lottery breakdown. Housing has kindly sent along the list of all five-person groups registered as EC Exclusion suites (ECX). Details after the jump.
First, an overview–you can find the ECX rules here. Essentially, despite being mixed in with standard, all-senior 30-point groups on the list of lottery numbers, 30-point ECX groups don’t pick until AFTER all 30-point groups have picked at their standard times, AND after all 30-point groups that don’t select have their second chance during Senior Regroup. This should all be clear when appointment times come out on Thursday—if it’s done as it was last year, seniors will pick during the first day and a half, Regroup will be on the afternoon of the second day, and 30-point ECX groups will kick off the third day.. After that, any 30-point groups that have dropped to Senior Regroup and formed new groups of five can also pick into ECX suites.
There are 39 ECX groups—23 of the 30-point variety (three seniors, two non-seniors), 15 at 26.67 (two seniors, one junior, two other non-seniors), one 20-point group (no seniors)—and 56 ECX suites. The count of 39 is, actually, far lower than last year’s 58, possibly reflecting the numerous 23.33 and 20-point groups that were left out. Juniors, to their credit, appear to have wised up.
With 31 other five-person 30-point groups, there should be 14 that don’t get an all-single five-person suite in EC or Hogan. As always, we’ll have to wait to see how many of those 14 decide to suffer the double to ensure space in EC and how many seniors use Regroup to snap up some of the remainder.
Our best guess, then, ends up right where it did yesterday—all the groups at 26.67 sneak in, we think. Meaning, knock on wood, that far fewer ECX groups are likely to be disappointed—an unusual development, indeed.
