113th St. brownstone, or, ‘The new kid on the block’

Courtesy of Columbia Housing

The facts: Located at 548 W. 113 St., the only brownstone in the regular room selection process is only one year in as an undergrad dorm. It doesn’t house very many people at all and is made up of all doubles, but for anyone wanting to live with someone else, these are the best doubles around, with square footage somewhere around 300 sq ft each. Sure you might be living in a double as a junior or senior, but with only 14 or so other people living in the building, it is well worth it.

The possibilities: all doubles, all the time.

The facts (continued):
Dishwasher: No
Gas stove: Yes
Elevator wait: infinite (no elevator)
Computer lab: No (but you can always use McBain’s)
Vending machines: None
Frequency of cleaning: Never. Grow up, clean up after yourself
Air conditioning: No
Gym facilities: No
Unisex bathrooms: Yes
Number of RAs: one

The ups
:

  • huge rooms
  • one bathroom for every room
  • few people live in  building

The downs:

  • it is unlikely you’ll be able to pick in with a bunch of friends
  • one washer and dryer for everyone to share (think about going home for break)
  • no elevator (but there are only four floors, so this is only a problem for move-in/out)

The tidbits:
Effectiveness of walls at blocking out sex: 8/10
General social environment: Quiet
Parties: Not often, but there is room for a small gathering
Quality of room lighting: Decent
Shortest time to Hamilton: Five mins

Who is likely to live there: Housing confirms that this will be in the lottery again this year—it should be added to the cutoff history soon. Not sure on the likely number here, but as it’s just eight studio doubles, it could vary a great deal depending on personal preferences. Our best guess would be juniors with middling lottery numbers that miss out on the best Watt/Woodbridge but deem this better than some Watt studio doubles.

how is the shortest time here 5 mins, and Nussbaum is 8 mins? Crossing Broadway takes 3 mins?

Why list that if you aren’t going to be accurate?
