As a part of their North American tour, The Shins are playing at Terminal 5 from April 29 through May 1. They kicked off their stop in New York with last night’s show, where the opener, St. Lucia, set the contrast between the two bands with their bouncy, pop-rock beats. They warmed the crowd for The Shins, whose vibrant keyboard melodies and seemingly gravitating vocals tore the crowd to woots and cheers. Opening with their classic hits, “Caring is Creepy”(which was featured in the movie “Garden State”) and “Kissing the Lipless,” they advanced onto their newest hits off of their first album in five years, “Port of Morrow.” While James Mercer is the only original member since the band’s inception in 1996, the 5-member lineup makes clear that they’re continuing the tradition of A-grade pop-rock and electronica.
