5 of the most ridiculous things on Etsy

AnOptimisticCynic/Etsy

For those of you who have never heard of Esty: It’s a website where handmade items can be bought and sold. You can pretty much sell anything legal on Esty, and for this reason, some people sell the most random and absurd things you could ever imagine.

I took on the challenge of perusing the site to find the items that reach the pinnacle of randomness. Because every work of art has its inspiration and purpose, I also tried to figure out what meaning hides behind their façades of sheer absurdity.

Etsy insanity begins after the jump!

1. Exorcist Playset

For only $250, you can have your very own crouched exorcism playset in your dorm room. Waking up each morning to a crouched doll spilling out the demons of her soul in the form of jumbled green string might not be the most soothing way to start the day, but if you ever have some demons locked up inside you that need exorcising, staring into the demonic yellow eyes of this doll might do the trick.

2. Gallbladder Crochet Plush with Removable Gallstones

Behold: a crochet version of a gallbladder with removable gallstones. If you are a medical student, this might be of good use for studying. But if not, you can use it as a procrastination tool. I can imagine shooting the removable gallstones out of the gallbladder ducts could get pretty addicting and entertaining.

3. Beaver Surprise Mug

Of all things to put inside a coffee mug, why choose a beaver? Because beavers are the kind of animal that you either love or hate, I see the function of the beaver in this mug as twofold. If you love beavers, this mug allows you to be reminded all morning of the utter cuteness. If you hate beavers, this mug could satisfy your secret, compulsive urge to drown one in scalding hot liquid.

 4.I LUV U PIG Robot

Ah yes, the romance of a robot and his pig. This is a pretty random combination of lovers, but I believe that this item holds a pretty profound message. The loving embrace between the robot and his pig conveys the capacity to connect two beings that would otherwise have absolutely nothing to do with one and other. Furthermore, within this object lies a portrayal of love’s capacity to transform even the most mechanized, unemotional robot into a being that exudes warmth and affection.

5. Sad Ice Cream Cone

There seems to be a theme of randomness encircling the crochet artist community. The final item on our list is another crochet work, this time of an ice cream cone with a boo-boo. Perhaps the creator of this item has some belief that food has feelings too. If so, the sympathy that this downcast ice cream cone evokes might make us think twice next time we take a chomp out of this delicious treat.
