Highlights from last night’s General Studies Student Council meeting:
- Natalie Telson, JTS Representative, resigned last week. Though she said she is not opposed to the council, she believed that the placement of JTS students in the School of General Studies “is somewhat skewed” and wanted to focus on her academic and social commitments. “I understand that JTS students are placed in GS due to our unconventional path of education,” she wrote in a letter dated Jan. 17. “However, many of us have differing interests and goals than that of our other GS peers.
- GSSC president Jackie Thong met with the Center for Career Education to discuss some collaboration opportunities.
- The council passed a motion to have a Masquerade Ball as the theme of this year’s GSSC gala. The gala committee is considering ending the gala with clocks and lights going out at a certain time since some council members were interested in an End of the World Theme.
- During a discussion on how to get more students to attend the council’s meetings, one GS student in the audience said that his organization sends out an email three hours prior to their meetings and suggested that the council do the same. However, Thong said that as a rule, the council only sends out one email per week on Mondays because GS students have complained in the past about receiving multiple emails from the council.
