Getting Graphic: Student Affairs edition

1968 vs. Today

In our Getting Graphic series, blogger Orli Matlow interprets the week’s news with humorous charts and graphs.

Hello, Columbia! Campus is looking as beautiful as ever! The sun is shining, the lawns are open, yesterday there was a beautiful (single) rainbow in the sky, and the majestic scaffolding and bleachers add an exciting obstacle course to getting around.

PrezBo said that the he is restructuring the Office of Student Affairs instead of hiring a new dean.

Getting Graphic: Crime edition

In our Getting Graphic series, blogger Orli Matlow interprets the week’s news with humorous charts and graphs.

Hi Columbia! How you doin’? (The travesty that was the “HIMYM” finale increased my love for “Friends.”)

This week, Spec published a report on NYPD statistics of crime in our neighborhood, which found grand larceny and identity theft to be among the most frequent in Morningside Heights. I, however, think that some crimes were overlooked.

Hi Columbia, I hope the transition from spring break back to real life wasn’t too brutal. Spring break seems like a distant memory by now, but luckily I have peeling skin from a sunburn to remind me of the warmth that was.

This week saw two important op-eds about the SJP banner removal.

Getting Graphic: Midterms edition

In our Getting Graphic series, blogger Orli Matlow interprets the week’s news with humorous charts and graphs.

Hello Columbia! Welcome to an all-pie chart Getting Graphic, written as such so it doesn’t resemble anything in the economics textbook. I have begun to resent supply and demand curves and am contemplating moving to Cuba so I don’t have to deal with the markets. Luckily, I have a Canadian passport, so I’ll be able to get in.

While midterms are horrible and painful, I’m trying to convince myself that they are not actually the worst things in the world. midterms pie More »

In our Getting Graphic series, blogger Orli Matlow interprets the week’s news with humorous charts and graphs.

Alright, folks, Happy Oscar Sunday! I am working on my own film, a “feminist film” in Butler, titled “AppropriatiΘn,” a cross between recent events and the seminal short “Initiatiøn.” Look out for it at next year’s Oscars!

Let’s talk about Thetagate. First, there was the event itself:

Getting Graphic: The Comedy Matrix

In our Getting Graphic series, blogger Orli Matlow interprets the week’s news with humorous charts and graphs.

Happy Sunday! In honor of last week’s previews, I present you with Orli’s Comedy Matrix™, plotting the funniness and the sensibilities of Columbia institutions. Both Orgo Night and the Varsity Show serve vital roles in our community—we need both the middle-finger-flipping-CUMB and the jazz hands-Varsity Show.

This week, that day formally known as Feb. 14th came and went. Here’s a graph particularly for the single ladies among us:

Getting Graphic is finally back this semester to bring you some graph-based goodness. This week saw lots of snowflakes on campus and, unfortunately, a broken snowflake at the Sochi Opening Ceremony.

Getting graphic: Finals edition

The tree lights are up, that means so are stress levels. Here is some (hopefully) comic relief!

In 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt articulated that December 7th is  a day that would live in infamy. He was correct.
