Mangurian wants you to keep coming, and stay loud
Earlier today, Light Blue football head coach Pete Mangurian published this post on his blog entitled “A Letter To Our Fans,” in which he praised students for coming out and being loud at Baker on Saturday, despite the 33-6 loss to Princeton. In the letter, the head coach called the fans the highlight of the game, and especially appreciated those who painted themselves blue.
Mangurian also mentioned the importance of community in the close of the letter in saying, “We are all in this together. Our players need to learn to not only play for their teammates, but to play for Columbia, and that’s you.”
This is the latest example in the coach’s effort of social media outreach. In an interview with Spec before the season started, Mangurian mentioned his favorite social medium is the blog, as it allows him to explain things with more detail.
You can read Mangurian’s letter in its entirety after the jump. The Lions next home game will be Homecoming on Oct. 20 against Dartmouth.
A Letter To Our Fans:
The highlight to last Saturday’s game versus Princeton was YOU. You came, you yelled and you were into it – don’t quit now. Don’t be haunted by those people who live in the negative, have all the reasons why it can’t be done, isn’t being done and has never been done. Don’t allow their voices to be louder than yours. There will be growing pains. There are a lot more issues here than dropped passes and missed tackles. You guys be the constant. You guys keep coming, keep screaming, keep painting yourself blue (that was awesome), and keep expecting more from us. We will deliver and you are helping. The “ghosts” out there tell me you won’t come. I believe they are wrong. I’ve seen it in person and it was great.
The day is approaching where everyone will want to be a part of what we are doing. As crazy as it sounds, we need your help more now than we will then. Our seniors will not be here to realize the full reward of their work, but they are a huge part of this effort. Some of you may not be around to see it all come together, but rest assured your presence is instrumental in these efforts. Keep coming to the games. Keep screaming. Have fun and be a part of our efforts.
We are all in this together. Our players need to learn to not only play for their teammates, but to play for Columbia, and that’s you.
See you at Dartmouth!
Coach M
That is beautiful. Keep working hard and keep supporting the team. I agree with Coach M, in a few years, Columbia will have a very good football team. It is going to take a huge effort and the students at Columbia are an essential part of the effort.
Don’t listen to the negative people. The are the losers.
Rome wasn’t built in a day….. Be patient Lion fans….Coach Mangurian is the real deal but hey coach how about some other running backs too before we burn Garrett out!….
Hey coach how about you teach the running backs how to pass block and pick up a blitz? There was not 1 running back blitz pickup on the right side all game against Princeton and brackett got sacked like 5 times from the right side. Gotta protect the QB!
“Keep coming and stay loud” — that’s what she said.
Our coach is great. We have never been better than before. Our team will grow and ultimately beat Princeton.
