Senior co-captains Jon Wong and Mihai Nichifor were named first team all-Ivy in singles for their play this spring. Sophomore Haig Schneiderman was named second team all-Ivy in singles, one year after being the unanimous choice for Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Wong went 5-2 at No. 1 singles, Nichifor went 7-0 at No. 2 singles and Schneiderman went 7-0 at No. 3 singles in Ivy play this season. Wong and Nichifor were also selected as first team all-Ivy in doubles.

For the first time since the awards were given in 1987, the same player was named as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Ivy League Player of the Year. Freshman Marc Powers from Yale made history this season going 7-0 at No. 1 singles for Yale, and winning both awards. Columbia and Yale were the only schools to have two players named to the first team all-Ivy in singles.

In singles, I only play grass crutos because the ball bounces low so people don’t get their usual power shot like they do on e.g. clay. The grass court really tests your true skill making you work really hard to win the match. In doubles, the surface doesn’t matter because you have a partner to help you if you miss a shot. people think they’re better than you if they win. i’m like give me a ONE rematch in singles on grass OR any surface in doubles then we’ll see who’s actually better.
