An Ivy basketball tournament could be coming soon

Kate Scarbrough / Spec

On Friday, the Harvard Crimson published this report detailing that Ivy coaches are preparing a proposal for a four-team, two-round tournament, with the four teams coming from the top four finishers in the regular Ivy season. The winner of this tournament would receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team that finishes in first place in the regular season would automatically receive a bid to the NIT (Not In Tournament National Invitation Tournament).

This is pretty big news, considering the Ivy League is the only league in the country that currently has an automatic bid without a tournament. But considering the fact that the story was picked up by USA Today yesterday, it seems like there’s a real possibility of this happening fairly soon.

Neither the article from the Crimson nor the one from USA Today actually gives a date when the tournament could start, but for the Lions, the sooner the better. With so many key players returning next season, an Ivy tournament could really play in the Lions’ favor for a postseason bid.

Stay tuned—hopefully we’ll be hearing more about these developments soon.

These guys played so well dunirg this tournament; three shut outs and a draw! Every member on the team contributed to their first place finish. We are all very proud, as the boys themselves should be. Well done, gentlemen!!!
