Today’s paper: movin’ on up

It’s a rough time of year, comrades… so rough it makes you reach for one of those tried-and-true expressions they say in the movies. Don’t despair, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel! There’s a landing at the top of the stairs. The night is darkest before dawn.

Hoping to make it big on the small screen, two Columbians have answered the call—the open casting call for the Fox show “Glee,” at least. Along with—gulp—30,000 other applicants, Joey Goldberg, CC ’10, and Emily Alpern Fisch, BC ’11, have been singing, smiling, and dancing their way to that one coveted open spot on the show. [A&E]

So Barnard’s Student Government Association continues to provide financial support to the school’s Panhellenic Council. But will Greek life be getting official recognition anytime soon? Nope! [News]

Mark your Blackberries: The Student Leaders Forum, the student-led counterpart to the much-hyped World Leaders Forum, will be hosting a panel discussion tonight titled “Women and Leadership in the 21st Century” on changing perceptions of the role of women in society. It’s a student-centered event, but the Forum still managed to draw a few big smart grown-ups: Jehmu Greene—journalist, feminist, and social justice organizer extraordinaire—will be talking it up with the man himself, PrezBo.
