The Daily Beast ranks Columbia #1 most rigorous school
And they’re out: The Daily Beast’s annual college rankings, a.k.a ‘Down + Dirty: Guide to the Best Colleges 2013′. Dear old Columbia ranks #5 in the best colleges list, and—hold on to that seat in the ref room just a second longer—the most rigorous school in the country.
The level of rigor was assessed on several factors including smartest professors (9.6/10), workload (9.5), and the percentage of classes with fewer than 20 students (we have 79.9 percent). Any guesses that it’s our irresistible combination of intimately small Core classes, intimidatingly accomplished professors, and a workload that, well, says it all.
In the overall best colleges list, we ranked below Yale, MIT, Stanford, and Harvard, in that order. However, before you pop the metaphorical champagne/order your fifth venti pumpkin spice latte of the day, hold on to those pennies: We rank at a surprisingly low #32 in Future Earnings, down more than 10 points from the top four schools. Since we’re the most hardworking school around, where’s the direct correlation to our
bankable questionable futures? And there isn’t much respite from our workaholic lives, it seems… Think we Columbians follow a work hard, play hard mentality? At #62 on the Nightlife scale, perhaps not.
As we squeeze all the juice that our liberal arts degrees have to offer, it’s no wonder our education sometimes feels like this:
