Life Imitates Arnold Art

Real-life Pigeon Man in Morningside Heights

It’s finally happened. We have officially become one step closer to living out our dream of being in a “Hey Arnold!” episode. No, we haven’t found a tiny, robin-blue baseball cap to complete our bubblegum shrine. But we DID find out that Morningside Heights has its very own Pigeon Man.

Out walking the dog, a New York City nature blog, visited this real life Pigeon Man, aka Victor Casiano, who says he is a last vestige of the once-great tradition of Manhattan rooftop pigeons. Westside Independent elaborates that Casiano has kept his pigeon coops on the roof of his Amsterdam Avenue apartment for over four decades. His birds are free to fly free, but they come back to the metaphorical nest for shelter, water, and food. Apparently, they’ve become accustomed to food delivery, and have difficulty going out to find sustenance. Kind of like us during finals.

It’s worth noting that Arnold’s Pigeon Man is named Vincent. Two V names. Coincidence? We think not. No word on whether Casiano’s parting words are also, “Remember, always wash your berries before you eat them!”

Very funny post. Glad you enjoyed my articles. Luckily, Victor is nothing like Vincent. I’m hoping his pigeons will fly high over our rooftops for years to come.

    But yeah, “Hey Arnold!” rules.
