Oh look, two more dumb college rankings
While we’re making lists of colleges, we should point out that two new school rankings came out today, this time from Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal. Where did Columbia place? Where!? Oh God, where?!?! Shall I build the suspense more? Results after the jump!
First, Newsweek’s “25 Most Desirable Colleges“, a list that very much mirrors a college ranking published by a certain other news weekly (one worth more than $1). Top 10 here:
1. Harvard
2. Yale
3. Stanford
4. Princeton
5. MIT
6. Columbia
7. Cooper Union
8. Dartmouth
9. United States Naval Academy
10. Brown
…
OK, but prepare yourself. The second—the WSJ’s “Top 25 Recruiter Picks“—is … different:
1. Penn State (also 2009′s No. 1 party school)
2. Texas A&M
3. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
4. Purdue
5. Arizona State
6. Michigan
7. Georgia Tech
8. University of Maryland, College Park
9. Florida
10. Carnegie Mellon
…
14. Cornell
…
Cornell is the only Ivy. I don’t want to judge, but I don’t really understand the methodology here (because they don’t explain it). All I know is that the USNWR list is the legitimate one, because that’s where Columbia’s ranked highest.
Hate on Newsweek! :(
