CU CIRCA might have dinner with Ahmadinejad
Fifteen members of the Columbia International Relations Council and Association might have the opportunity to dine with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sept. 21 according to an email from the club’s listserv.
Despite the controversy surrounding the leader, including student protests and sharp criticism (“cruel and petty dictator” anyone?) from PrezBo during Ahmadinejad’s speech at the 2007 World Leader’s Forum, members of CIRCA are still excited for the opportunity said their vice president of academics, Tim Chan, CC ’14.
An article on the Spec website this weekend initially reported that the reason behind the opportunity was due to a member’s relationship with the Iranian ambassador. Chan subsequently clarified this statement to say that in fact no one in the group has a close relationship with the ambassador and the dinner party, scheduled during the UN General Assembly, is still tentative.
