Wake-up call

Crack open a cold one and read the news

Good morning Columbia! Today is National Drink Beer Day! We don’t usually encourage drinking while reading the Wake-Up Call, but it is a national holiday for crying out loud so maybe you’d better crack one open if you care about America at all.

Read this: The Barnard pool is closing in May. Some Barnard students are not happy about this, and have started a campaign called “Save the Barnard Pool.”

Know this: In addition to National Shamu the Whale Day, yesterday was also National Love an Elder Day, which in retrospect seems more important than the whole Shamu thing (though Shamu’s an elder by now, right?). Here’s how one local group observed the day.

Here’s more: As election season approaches, David Chalmers wonders if Latinos are getting their interests represented.

And one more thing: Tomorrow is the Ivy League opener for our football team! We’re hosting Princeton. Bold prediction: Princeton is going down!

All right Columbia. Finish that beer, then go outside and have a great day! By the way, today is also National Ask a Stupid Question Day, so here goes: Do we really need a National Drink Beer Day?
