According to an email from Dean Hinkson, a select number of tickets to Barnard’s 2012 Commencement are being given away in a lottery [insert Hunger Games joke here].
But don’t fret Columbia students– there’s good news ahead! It turns out you don’t even need to win a lottery ticket for the pity party going down from now until Barnard’s commencement!
Dear Barnard Student,
With all the excitement about having President Obama speak at Barnard’s 2012 Commencement, I’d like to offer you the opportunity to put your name in a lottery for a ticket to attend the Ceremony on May 14th. Please complete the survey https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/embeddedform?formkey=dEk2TFBuSTNDNzlSRk1Hck04UWpoM2c6MQ to participate. The Lottery will close on Wednesday May 2nd at 5pm. Winners will be notified via email by Monday May 7th.
These tickets will not be transferable to any one else, may not be sold and on-campus housing will not be extended for this reason. Students who give or sell these tickets to another person will be sanctioned to the extent of expulsion.
Hope you win,
Dean Hinkson
In other news, Barnard seniors received an email that stated they will each receive six tickets to graduation, and that if they sell them, they will be expelled (three days before graduation, really?).
The email also stated that guests will have to “go through airport-like security,” including removing their shoes upon arrival to the lawn (I’m kidding about that part, but they did say that no liquids or sharp objects would be allowed in).
Correction: The post previously said Barnard seniors would receive five tickets, not six, to Commencement.

I’m a Barnard Senior and I haven’t received any such email about the number of tickets. What time was the email received?
Daily Editor Rebekah Mays received the email on Thursday at 1:26 p.m.
Yesterday at around 10:30 AM.
Did you fill out the ticket request form last month? I would suggest contacting Dean Hinkson.
I did fill out the survey from last month. I just thought they had changed the maximum number we would all receive from 6 to 5.
are these tickets for any columbia student or just barnard students who aren’t yet seniors?
The tickets are just for Barnard students who are not seniors.
Barnard seniors each receive six tickets to graduation (not five).
Thanks for the correction! The post has been edited to reflect these changes.
cupcake8million Posted on congrats- your livnig my dream since you won’t see your family/ friends for a long tie you could go cheesy- wish you were here or on the trail again or Where in the world is (your name)? Best of luck!
if it’s just for Barnard students why do you say “But don’t fret Columbia students” ???? Barnard students aren’t even Columbia students!!!!
Dear spec first of all something is wrong with your comments because when I click REPLY it MOVES the place I have to type in and I can not keep track of it so that is dumb. SECOND of all if spec was a color it would be PURPLE which is a lame color THIRD of all I do not go to barnard then how come I never heard of this letter? HUH?
And then cry.
That was *not* me that was someone making *fun* of me. Are you retarded do you think I would write something that dumb! YOU are the pathetic one for trying to impersinate me.
Douchy elitist comments aside, it’s kind of false advertisement the way this article is written. It’s only for Barnard students, not CC/SEAS/GS students.
I’m sad.
