Wake up, you sleepyhead
For this Quick and Dirty, we asked some of our Opinion writers for their thoughts on the new master class schedule. The Editorial Board shared their thoughts in the paper today:
Alex Collazo, Columnist: 8:40 classes are a crime. Friday classes are a crime against humanity. It’s time for PrezBo to face justice in the Hague.
Jim Pagels, Blogger: Classes already start at 9. Is 20 minutes really that big a deal? Props to CU administration for finding a relatively painless solution to a serious space problem.
Noel Duan, Columnist: Since I usually arrive 20 minutes early to my 9:00 a.m. class anyway, I guess I’ll have to arrive at 8:20 a.m. from now on to remain the sycophant that I am.
Caroline Blosser, Blogger: I don’t want to point any fingers, but it sounds like the Early-Morning-Breakfast-and-Coffee-To-Go Lobby (EMBCTGLob) might be behind all this…
Derek Turner, Blogger: Even though I won’t be here, I’m still outraged. This is a prime example of how the students are suffering because of administrative decisions to keep expanding class sizes. They act like they’re doing us a favor by freeing up classrooms, when in fact the problem was created by the University’s compulsion to grow class sizes for financial reasons.
Esfandyar Batmanghelidj, Canon Contributor: There is a simple solution to all this fuss. For classes to start half an hour earlier, homework must also end half an hour earlier!
Emily Tamkin, Blogger: I was excited that this early start time wouldn’t apply to seniors, but then I realized that I’ll be expected to get up even earlier for the class called life.

I don’t know if any one of the Opinion staff have actually read the committee report that produced these changes. It’s freely available on the site of the PPC (google is your friend). We needed more space, period. Nobody disputes that, I hope. It was either 8:40 classes or a full day of classes on Fridays…and most schools start classes at 8 or earlier anyway. I think this was a good and reasonable choice.
I think a lot of them are being sarcastic . . .
I agree (that many were being sarcastic). But I think growing class sizes is a valid point.
This is brilliant. Please do this on a weekly basis.
Hi Sonia,You can include as many clsseas as you wish but they are still under the same wikispace address so you only need to register once. You will notice I have already changed that in the list.Your students might need to explain how other students can leave comments on their wiki pages.
Wow, awesome weblog structure! How long have you ever been blogging for? you make running a blog look easy. The entire glance of your website is excellent, let alone the content!
