Update, 7:02 p.m.: Barnard spokesperson Sun Min said that she can’t comment due to an ongoing police investigation. Meanwhile, the stairwell has been reopened and there doesn’t seem to be anyone else on the scene.
Original post:
The second floor of the Barnard Annex is currently being blocked off by Public Safety, although it’s unclear why.
As of a few minutes ago, the stairway to the second floor was still blocked by two Public Safety officers, though no police officers were visible. According to Bwog, there were NYPD officers blocking the stairs just before 5 p.m.
There were also four facilities employees at the stairwell, bringing cleaning supplies down from the second floor and mopping the stairs. The first floor of the annex is still open, including a dance room being used by students.
A Barnard spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment. We’ll update this post as we learn more.
