Do you have opinions? Do you like to express said opinions through video, graphs, gifs, or even just old-fashioned words? Do you enjoy deep conversation about issues at Columbia and long walks on the beach? Are your elaborate doodles and/or Photoshop skills the envy of your Instagram followers?
Then apply to be a blogger, columnist, or editorial artist!
Plus, Spectrum is looking for bloggers and Senior Staff Bloggers–you can get great experience writing and editing blog posts, coming up with awesome series ideas, and knowing everything happening on campus before everyone else does.
Below are the job descriptions. You may apply for and hold more than one position.
Columnists write 800 words every other week and generally carry a steady and recognizable theme. A good opinion column should be relevant to Columbia and timely. Past columns can be found here. Apply here.
Opinion bloggers publish regular posts on Spectrum once or twice a week, and are usually shorter and more focused than columns. A good opinion post should be relevant to Columbia and make use of lists, graphics, photos, links, videos, or other multimedia. Past posts can be found here. Apply here.
Artists are responsible for 1-2 illustrations per week and have the option to draw editorial cartoons, illustrations that accompany and complement written content in print, or op-art for Spectrum that responds to content or illustrates an independent opinion. Experience with Photoshop or Illustrator is preferred but not required. Apply here.
Spectrum bloggers have more flexibility in their topics. Series should be witty and make use of visuals like photos, gifs, and videos. Apply here.
Senior staff bloggers edit Spectrum posts and get experience managing a real blog and coordinating content. In addition to one day a week of running the blog, SSBs respond to on-campus happenings and keep an eye out for exciting/crazy/weird things happening on campus. Apply here.
