(O)pining for applications

Wikimedia Commons

It’s summer. Your eyes are probably burning from too much Netflix. You’re already bored. (On the off chance you’ve already started your internship/job/form of work, my condolences.)

So take a break—apply to contribute to the opinion section.

If you think you can write, draw, argue, investigate, or editorialize, that’s great. Please apply away. If you can’t, that’s also great—working for Opinion is a learning process that will teach you to write, draw, argue, investigate, and editorialize.

Applications for columnists, bloggers, Editorial Board members, and artists are due May 30 at 11:59 p.m. All positions are semester-long.

Application links and position descriptions are below. You can apply for any and all positions, regardless of experience. If you have any questions about the application, I strongly encourage you to reach out and email me. Whether it’s about logistics or ideas in your application, I’m available for any and all questions.

Columnists publish a column once every two weeks. Columns run around 750-850 words long and have a steady and recognizable theme throughout the semester. A good column should be relevant to Columbia and timely, and it should express a clear opinion. Past columns can be found here. Apply here.

Bloggers write posts for Spectrum once a week. Blog posts are usually shorter, less formal, and often more focused than columns. Bloggers should similarly have a central theme. A good blog post should be relevant to Columbia and make use of lists, graphics, photos, links, or embedded videos. Past opinion blog posts can be found here. Apply here.

The Editorial Board is the voice of Spectator. Members meet twice a week to decide the content of Spectator’s staff editorials, discuss the issues, and form opinions on them. Editorial Board members have a hand in the writing and editing process for the editorials, which cover both campus and neighborhood issues, voicing Spectator’s opinions on them. Past staff editorials can be found here. Apply here.

Artists contribute to the opinion pages regularly through illustrations, editorial cartoons, photographs, and other multimedia. Art may go along with a piece or stand on its own. If you’re interested, send a sample of your work to and fill out the application here.

Finally, if you are interested in editing and recruiting pieces, contact with two paragraphs: why you’re interested and what qualifications you have.

Again, if you have any questions, please email

Fundamentally, I sort of such as this film. Intellectually, I approve of it. It’s looking for emotional meaning through Minami’s character as well as for me succeeding at this much better than most of the regular Species movies, albeit in an understated way. It is Air Jordan 2233 probably better to replace the plants every few years. The flowers have a rich aromatic fragrance[245]. Hyssop is a very good plant for attracting bees and butterflies towards the garden[4, 20]. Or it’s for parents conc
