Your dream SSOL course wait list
Thanks to a feature unveiled by CUIT last Monday, students can now use a “wait list” feature to try to get into full classes without even refreshing SSOL every three seconds. The limitless* possibilities this feature allows inevitably leads to dreams of an ideal class schedule, unbounded by class size limits, major preference, or silly things like “prerequisites.”**
On our waiting list…
History of New York with Kenneth Jackson. A midnight bike ride through the city with one of Columbia’s most illustrious history professors? Check yes.
America Since 1945 with Alan Brinkley. Brinkley is a history legend, and if you can fit it into your schedule, this class is one worth taking.
Romantic Poetry with Erik Gray. With an enrollment of over 100, this isn’t a small English lecture, but Gray’s intelligence and charm have earned him a gold nugget and a dedicated following of students.
World War II in History and Memory with Carol Gluck. Students who have taken this course call it life-changing, and Gluck is a legendary professor.
Any Creative Writing workshop—especially with Stacey D’Erasmo or Amy Benson. Creative Writing workshops are notoriously hard to gain admission to (at Barnard, even introductory ones require an application). Both Stacey D’Erasmo and Amy Benson are particularly sought-after faculty in this department.
Intro to Computer Science with Adam Cannon. Even non-science-minded students have enjoyed Cannon’s dedication to his students and enthusiasm for his subject matter. (Science requirement, anyone?)
East Asian Buddhism with Michael Como. Fulfilling the Global Core requirement for CC students doesn’t have to be a burden. Buddhism is a fascinating religion, and Como has certainly earned his stripes teaching it.
Managing Brands, Identity & Experience. Our source in SEAS tells us this course is fascinating…too bad it’s not open to everyone.
Making of the Modern American Landscape with Elizabeth Blackmar. Blackmar is an award-winning professor, and her students have no shortage of love for her. (Check out her silver nugget on CULPA.)
On a separate note, if anyone happens to have a time turner, please give us a shout.
**These things still prevent me from getting into plenty of classes. Blerg.
