Sophomores (and mixed-point juniors), I’ve got some bad news…
Unless something drastic happens, sophomores won’t get to pick into non-Furnald singles after all, which shocks me to say the least. With 232 non-Furnald singles left (as of 7:58 p.m.), and 233 20-pointers set to pick over the next two days, all 20-point people will get to pick into singles (well except 20/3004…), but again, unlike what I said earlier, sophomores won’t get to pick into non-Furnald singles. More on this later in the post—check after the jump for more forecasts (which should be pretty accurate now), and a discussion of summer transfer and the Sophomore Waitlist. More »
General Selection 2012: A lot more than everything you need to know
The GenSel list is up on StarRez. Take a look here.
Now that you’ve taken a look before the analysis, here’s a big disclaimer: General Selection predictions can be wildly off due to individual preferences (as opposed to Suite Selection, which is tremendously more predictable). With that warning, here’s what your lottery number means, from top to bottom (sophomores, if you’re in a tldr mode, the Furnald cutoff will be around 10/356, give or take 50).

Suite Selection is over
Today saw the end of Suite Selection, and surprisingly, the near-end of every single option in Suite Selection. The Claremont 7s, after some uncertainty, were finally taken off the books in their entirety and every single dorm (EVEN MCBAIN!!!) with exception of Schapiro, had its remaining doubles wiped out.
With the ridiculous number of doubles that were taken during Suite Selection, that almost certainly means a sizable number of singles will be available for sophomores in General Selection, as well as better single options for the rising juniors.
With the end of Phase I of the lottery, only six Schapiro doubles remain, which will likely be the last picks in General Selection for the remaining sophomores.
Unless something shocking happens, the big winners in this year’s lottery will be rising sophomores in General Selection with decent lottery numbers. More »
LIVEBLOG DAY 6: Sophomores sigh
Your browser does not support iframes.
The final day of Suite Selection has arrived at last, and with that, while we won’t get anywhere near Shaft territory, the remaining pickings will lack the exciting flavour of yesterday’s options. Expect the remaining two EC dubs to be snatched up soon, followed quickly by the Nussbaum doubles with a private bathroom and the Wien walkthrough doubles. After that it’ll be a steady diet of Broadway, Nussbaum, McBain, Wien, but fortunately not too many groups awkwardly splitting up. After that, that’s the end (of Suite Selection)! Thanks for following along and for one last time check after the jump for the liveblog. More »
Housing: Recap of day five, preview of day six
Today was the penultimate day of Suite Selection and, we have to say, things were far less chaotic than they were last week. Outside of Claremont (which we’ll get to later), the juniors ensured that there would be no suites or even studio doubles left for the sophomores. That meant that today’s selection was all about doubles. Sophomores utilized Sophomore Pair-Up to grab chunks of the remaining buildings, with the vast majority choosing one of the Big Five: Broadway, McBain, Nussbaum, Schapiro, and Wien. The savvier sophomores also took their time to consider the oft-forgotten options of the sixth floor of EC and on the tenth floor of Furnald. Overall, the order of their choices was fairly haphazard since it’s tough to make a conclusive argument at this point that any type of double is better than any other–it’s all about personal preferences now. LIVEBLOG Day 5: Sophomores surge (UPDATE: There will be 40 Furnald singles in GenSel)

With the aftermath of Junior Regroup, the most dramatic moments of this year’s Housing selection are over. There’ll still be a few plotlines—namely when will the Claremont 7s be gone and how many sophomores will elect to test the waters of General Selection—but the turbulence has ended. But we’re still here, to report on the sophomores so be sure to check after the jump for our liveblog and to check the Whiteboard above for remaining rooms (sortable by square feet). More »
Here are a ton of thoughts about Housing, including a potential golden opportunity for sophomores
Here’s the analysis of today and the future of housing in un-high-school, three-paragraph format—what happened today, what’ll happen on Monday, and whether sophomores should drop to General.
What Happened Today
Aside from the absolute shocker of a Ruggles six-person suite making it all the way into Junior Regroup, all went mostly as expected. Juniors picked into Watt Studio Doubles in droves, with all but two-person groups finding themselves disappointed.
The instating of Junior Regroup proved to be a brilliant idea this year. With well over 100 juniors crammed into John Jay Lounge, and most ending up with a Watt Studio Double or Claremont 7-person that in other years would almost have definitely dropped to sophomores, Junior Regroup certainly showed its fruits this year.
A few random predictions for next year. 1) Like with the EC Exclusion situation last year (freshmen groups were able to pick into EC), the appearance of a 20/3000 Ruggles cutoff will almost certainly up the number of junior six-person groups substantially. 2) Junior Regroup will be around for next year. LIVEBLOG DAY 4: Juniors recuperate and regroup!
Your browser does not support iframes.
Tomorrow will be our first glance at what effect the Junior Regroup rule instated this year will have. With literally over 100 juniors potentially fighting over the remaining Watt Studio Doubles and Claremont 7s, the scene around 2:30 tomorrow could get absolutely chaotic. Stay tuned to that and more in today’s liveblog.
A few miscellaneous other notes:
1) Make use of the option under Spreadsheet view to sort the remaining rooms by square feet.
2) We’ve found out that the lone River Walkthrough Double has been reserved for Special Interests this year and that a Harmony six-person suite and Harmony double are still available.
3) Expect ~15 Watt studio doubles to be remaining for regroup and a whopping 9 Claremont 7s left over too. Start figuring out your regroup plans now.

Housing: recap of day 3, preview of day 4
On Day Three of Suite Selection, the impact of yesterday’s Senior Regroup became apparent. The mixed-point groups were left to pick through the carnage, as the two-point groups ate up the medium- and low-demand Woodbridge lines, the Symposium doubles, and the Watt one-bedroom apartments, all of which were gone by the day’s close.
After everyone’s lottery numbers were published, it seemed like Woodbridge could last deep into the 20-point round. However, the elimination of the UAH apartments combined with the insane popularity of Woodbridge during Regroup meant that its cutoff was pretty much in line with the cutoff from last year. More »
