What to watch

Everything you need to watch this week

A new week calls for new ways to put off that problem set. For the second week in a row, we’ve put together a list of the best of the airwaves. For your viewing pleasure, here’s the best the fall premiere season has to offer:

  • Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (airs 10/9 at 9:00, CW) – If you like Buffy, Firefly, The Avengers, musicals, wannabe super-villains, or a Nathan Fillion-Neil Patrick Harris charm extravaganza, then the television premiere of this Joss Whedon-helmed web sensation is for you. If none of the aforementioned categories suit your fancy, then… read a book? Really, there isn’t a more enjoyable viewing experience around.
  • The Vampire Diaries (airs Oct. 11 at 8:00, CW) – A supernatural drama created to capitalize on a bloodsucker-saturated zeitgeist? Maybe. But underneath all of the glossy beauty and undead angst, this show, now entering its fourth season, has mastered the art of stuffing crackerjack plotting, dynamic relationships, and ever-escalating, pardon the pun, stakes into one of the fastest hours of television on the air. And, for the record, Team Stefan all the way.
  • The Walking Dead (airs Oct. 14 at 9:00, AMC) – Midterms got you down? Put your problems into perspective with the third season premiere of this hit about a group of survivors in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. In this episode, Rick and the gang happen upon what appears to be a safe haven, but you’ll still watch grateful that the closest Columbia has to a zombie infestation is the late-night Butler faithful.
